ASME PRESSURE VESSEL NOZZLE REPAIR
Pressure Vessels (Also known as ASME tanks) play an essential role in processing facilities. The pressure vessels might serve as a steam boiler, bringing heat to the building or hot water to the processing system. Or, the pressure vessel could be used to store gases at a high amount of pressure.
If that pressure vessel has a leak or components aren’t functioning correctly, it could be potentially dangerous. That is why it is an OSHA requirement to get your pressure vessel inspected every 5 years.
When companies get their pressure vessel inspected and it fails because of a minor crack or a faulty nozzle, they give us a call and ask us to repair it. Although we also fabricate brand-new pressure vessels, it is a more expensive option than a repair.
In this project, we replaced two of the three nozzles sticking out of the pressure vessel head. Due to wear and tear over time, the original nozzles’ wall thickness had exceeded the corrosion allowance.
Barclay Mechanical removed the old nozzles and repad, cleaned up the holes, replaced them with new nozzle and repad using certified ASME weld procedures. Then, we performed an X-ray and die penetrant NDT test, which our welds passed.
After the job was complete, we documented the repair with the national board and attached the repair tag to the pressure vessel.
